Happy Birthday to my amazing daughter, Emily Ann. She is 30 years old today, although it seems like that must be a mistake....it was only yesterday that this little angel graced our home with her prescence and it was never to be the same. She was born on the birthday of and named after her great grandmother, Martha Ann Winward Hair, a pioneer in her own right.
She has an energy about her that is undeniable. She is ultra-smart, kind of forgetful, beautiful, compassionate and kooky, all rolled up together. She tries new things and always succeeds at them and is raising two of the cutest girls in Alaska OR the "lower 48." I hope she always knows that no one could ever love her as much as her mom. I couldn't be prouder of her life--all 30 years of it. Happy Birthday to my little Pioneer Day girl....

Having a 13 month-old of my own now, I can't really figure out HOW ON EARTH you managed a pioneer day baby with ME in the mess! I must be the reason she turned out so patient and easy-going... I must also be part of the reason you iron on ladders these days!
It was worth every minute...and the joke is on you, as you will all have to take care of this looney old woman someday!!! HAHAHAHAHA
I love that picture...is that little one Grandma Hair? I always, deep down, wished I could have lived in those "olden days." That one family vacation we took to Tombstone was a dream come true for me...something about sweeping a dirt floor made my heart sing.
I have always loved that my birthday was on Pioneer Day, and that I shared it with her. I still remember the day she died, and although I never knew her REALLY well, I felt such a strong connection to her. I can't wait to rekindle that friendship someday.
I am glad you have her precious china. She would have loved that, Em. Although she was very soft-spoken and gentle, she was a strong woman in so many ways, most remarkably living alone for over 50 years as Grandpa Hair died when he was only 50. She was a tease and loved to be silly. She would dress up in funny garbs like lampshades on her head and come walking into a room and scare us all. She was a corker...One cute thing I remember about her was that she called Cream of Wheat "Grandma Mush." She would always make it for me when I visited her. Maybe you could fix it for your girls in her honor sometime....
I'm so lucky that you raised such an amazing daughter ahead of me so I had someone's footsteps to follow in. I love you Em! I hope the 30th year of your life is the best yet!!
